Center Valley, PA (December 7, 2013) – Senior
Sondrine Glovas scored a game-high 22 points and the Bulldogs forced 29 Colonel turnovers leading to 23 points in a 66-45 win, DSU's 33rd straight over Wilkes, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.
Glovas poured in four three-pointers on eight attempts and added a game-high eight rebounds in the win. Senior
Alexiah Grant also reached double digits with 14 points.
Wilkes saw just one player reach double figures,
Elena Stambone, with 14 tallies.
After trailing 4-2 in the early stages of the game, the Bulldogs wasted no time taking control of the contest using a 17-6 run to take a 19-8 lead at the 5:44 mark. The 11-point advantage remained into the halftime locker room as DSU forced 19 first-half turnovers, leading to 15 points. Glovas (9) and Grant (8) led the way in the scoring column.
The second-half was more of the same as the Bulldogs used a 12-0 run over a four-minute span mid-way thru the half to push a 13-point lead into a 25-point advantage (58-33) with 8:21 left to play and never looked back from there.
Junior
Alex Suk added nine points and five boards in the win and senior
Megan Gallagher finished with six points and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Gabby Scott had six steals to lead DeSales.
The Bulldogs have not lost to Wilkes since the 1993 season and have never lost to the Colonels since joining the Freedom Conference at the start of the 1997-98 season. DSU is 18-0 all-time vs. Wilkes at home.
DeSales has a week off before returning to action at home hosting local rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
