Wilkes-Barre, PA (February 20, 2013) – Junior
Alexiah Grant scored a game-high tying 22 points but King's College shot 42.9 percent from the field and scored 80 points ending the Bulldogs season with an 80-70 loss to the Lady Monarchs in the semifinals of the Freedom Conference playoffs on Wednesday evening in Scandlon Gymnasium.
The 80 points allowed are the highest given up all season and it is the first time in the last 80 games for the Bulldogs they have allowed 80+ in a game. The last time came in the last game of the of the 2009-10 season, a 94-77 loss to Williams College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Grant finished with 22 points, shooting 10-for-22 from the field, while senior
Taylor Greene, junior
Sondrine Glovas, and junior
Megan Gallagher also reached double digits with 10 points each. Gallagher registered a double-double with 11 rebounds to go along with her 10 tallies and senior
Colleen Gavin finished with eight points and nine boards in the loss.
King's jumped out of the gates, leading 25-11, 10 minutes into the game before the Bulldogs stormed back using a 21-8 run over the next six minutes to get within one point (33-32) with 4:08 to go in the first half. Gallagher spurred the run scoring the first six points.
After Glovas missed the second of two free throws spoiling a chance to tie the game, the Lady Monarchs ended the half on a 9-0 run to take a 10-point halftime lead (42-32) into the locker room. Senior
Celia Rader led the way in the first-half with 17 of her 20 points.
In the second-half the Bulldogs got within nine points several times over the first five minutes but couldn't claw any closer and a 9-0 Lady Monarch run put the game out of reach despite a late 12-0 run by the Bulldogs that made it 76-68 with 36 seconds left.
The loss was the first this season when DeSales scored 70+ points as it entered the game 10-0 when reaching 70 on the scoreboard. The Bulldogs out-rebounded King's, 42-37, and shot 39.2 percent from the field.
Senior
Katlin Michaels finished the game with 22 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and four steals in the win.
Jennifer Fabian added 21 points and eight boards, Rader finished with 20 points, and
Lindsay Atchison totaled 12 points for the Lady Monarchs.
The Bulldogs season comes to a close with a final record of 18-8 and its 16th straight berth in the Freedom Conference playoffs having never missed the post-season since joining the Freedom Conference in 1997-98.
