Box Score
Annville, PA (March 13, 2013) – Senior Derek Chrismer laced a two-run double giving DSU a 2-1 lead in the sixth and the Bulldogs exploded from there scoring eight times in the sixth and five times in the seventh innings to rout Lebanon Valley College, 14-2, in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
After LVC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a bases loaded walk, the two teams were locked in a pitcher's duel entering the sixth inning when DeSales broke it open.
After senior
Brian Mauro and junior
Mark Westdyk each reached base with one out, Chrismer was sent in as a pinch-hitter and he rocketed a double off the wall in leftfield giving DSU a 2-1 lead and the Bulldogs pushed six more runs across in the inning including an RBI double from freshman
Alec Hardy and a two-RBI double from sophomore
Drew Borger.
DeSales added five more in the seventh and never looked back from there. Hardy again had a big hit in the seventh with a two-RBI double this time.
Sophomore
Eric Dillard continued his terrific pitching allowing just one unearned run over five innings to earn his second win of the season. He allowed just four hits and struck out two over five innings of work.
Chrismer finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, senior
Jack Kavetski, Borger, and Hardy also each scored twice in the win. Junior
Mark Fuse also had two hits.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when they open both Freedom Conference play and their Butz Field schedule with a rematch of last year's Freedom Conference title game with Misericordia University in an early season showdown with the Cougars. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm on Friday.
