Box Score
Center Valley, PA (March 15, 2013) – Junior Mark Westdyk set the tone with a first-inning two-out grand slam and the Bulldogs opened their Freedom Conference schedule with a 9-6 win over Misericordia University on Friday afternoon at Butz Field.

After the Bulldogs loaded the bases with two outs and already had a runner thrown out at the plate earlier in the first inning, Westdyk came to plate and delivered with a laser beam home run to right-field that left in hurry staking DSU to a 4-0 lead.

Misericordia answered with two runs in the top of the second inning but senior Jack Kavetski made sure the Bulldogs answered back with a towering two-run triple, again coming with two outs, to give DeSales a 6-2 edge.

The scoring settled down from there as senior Dan Gayeski settled in facing the minimum in both third and fourth innings and working around two walks in the fifth to keep it a four-run game.

In the sixth, Gayeski loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a hit batter, but freshman Chris Polaski entered the game and induced an inning-ending double play ball to second as sophomore Drew Borger tug the runner and fired to first just in time to end the threat.

In the bottom of the inning, senior Justin Scerbo gave DSU an 8-2 lead launching his first career home run to left-center plating freshman Steven Wallace.

MU scored once in the seventh, twice in the eighth, and once more in the ninth before sophomore Trevor Connors worked out of his own jam in the ninth to preserve the win.

Gayeski earned his first win of the season going 5.1 innings allowing just six hits and two runs.  Borger, Kavetski, Westdyk, and freshman Alec Hardy each had two hits to lead a 10-hit attack.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow (weather pending) to take on these same Cougars in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
