Bats Stay Hot Despite Cold Temps; Bulldogs Rip Wilkes, 21-8

Center Valley, PA (March 22, 2013) – Thirteen different players recorded hits and the DeSales University baseball team scored six runs in the second and nine runs in the third inning opening up a 16-2 lead and cruised the rest of the way in a 21-8 win over the Colonels in the first of three games this weekend.

After opening up a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double from senior Jack Kavetski, the Bulldogs scored six more in the second frame batting around as senior Derek Chrismer had a two-RBI single, freshman Alec Hardy had a two-RBI double and senior Brian Mauro had an RBI single in the inning.

Wilkes countered with two runs in the bottom of the inning before DSU blew the game open with nine in the top of the third inning.  Sophomore Drew Borger had an RBI on a bases loaded hit by pitch, Kavetski knocked in two with a single, Mauro knocked in another run with another single, Chrismer had an RBI double, and junior Mark Westdyk capped it all off with a three-run home run, his second dinger of the season.

Senior Dan Gayeski earned his second win of the season pitching five innings allowing five hits and four runs, while striking out seven.  Senior Carlos Guerrero and junior Kevin Regan combined to allow just three unearned runs over the final four innings.

Senior Justin Scerbo went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base, Kavetski had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs, freshman Carrington Santana had two hits, Mauro had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs, and Chrismer finished with three hits, three runs scored, and three RBIs.

Westdyk added two hits, two runs, and three RBIs, junior Charles Dennis scored three times, sophomore Zach Stup had two RBIs and a triple, and Hardy finished with three hits and three RBIs to lead the offensive barrage.

These same two teams will finish its weekend three-game set tomorrow again at Butz Field in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at Noon.
