Camden, NJ (April 16, 2013) – Junior Mark Fuse finished one hit shy of tying the school-record for hits in a game going 5-for-5 with a walk leading the DeSales University baseball team to a 12-5 win over Rutgers-Camden in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored in each of the first four innings to take a 9-4 lead and never looked back from there.  DSU led 1-0 after one inning after senior Brian Mauro doubled home Fuse but trailed 4-3 after two innings after Rutgers-Camden scored four times in the bottom of the second inning after DSU plated two more in the top of the inning.

The Bulldogs answered right back with three runs in the top of the third on an RBI bunt single from senior Derek Chrismer, a Camden error, and an RBI single from sophomore Drew Borger.  DSU added three more in the fourth on another RBI double from Mauro and an RBI ground out from junior Mark Westdyk and a Chrismer sacrifice fly.

Westdyk singled home Fuse in the sixth, Chrismer singled home fellow senior Jack Kavetski in the eighth, and freshman Evan Fraser plated Chrismer with an RBI single later in the inning to provide the final Bulldog runs.

Senior David Drinks improved to 4-0 lasting 6.2 innings allowing 10 hits and four runs, striking out one.  Fuse had a chance to tie the team record for hits in a game in the top of the ninth, but walked instead to finish 5-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored.  Mauro finished 2-for-6 with two RBIs, Kavetski had two hits and scored three times, Westdyk and Chrismer each had two RBIs, Fraser went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Borger added two hits in the win.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they host Ursinus College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
