Purchase, NY (April 19, 2013) – The Bulldogs scored six unearned runs over the first and third innings to take a 6-2 lead and freshman Chris Polaski pitched five innings of terrific relief allowing just four hits and one run to lead the DeSales University baseball team past Manhattanville College, 10-7, in the first of three games this weekend on Friday afternoon.

The win is the fifth straight for the Bulldogs who improve to 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the Freedom Conference.  DSU controls its own destiny in the quest to earn the top seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs, just needing to win its remaining five Freedom Conference games to earn the top spot.

DSU jumped out early on Friday scoring three times in the first thanks in part to a two-run double from senior Derek Chrismer.  After the Valiants put two on the board in the second inning, the Bulldogs answered with three more on an RBI double from senior Brian Mauro and an RBI groundout from Chrismer.

DeSales still led 6-3 after four innings when it tacked two more runs on a two-RBI single from freshman Evan Fraser and led 10-4 entering the bottom of the ninth after RBIs from sophomore Drew Borger in the seventh and ninth innings.

Polaski was outstanding in relief of senior Dan Gayeski who lasted just three plus innings allowing nine hits and three runs.  He allowed just four runners to reach second base, one scoring, over his five innings of work.  Fellow freshman Chris Zampini earned the save, getting the final out after MVille had scored three runs and the tying run at the plate with two outs when Zampini entered the game.

Chrismer finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, Fraser also had three hits and knocked in two.  Mauro finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Borger had two RBIs in the win.

These two teams finish up its three-game set tomorrow when the Bulldogs host the Valiants for two games.  First pitch has been moved back to 1:30 pm.
