Center Valley, PA (April 2, 2013) – Senior Brian Mauro went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and the DeSales University baseball team won its sixth straight game erasing a 4-0 first-inning deficit in a 13-7 win over Rutgers-Newark in non-conference action on a chilly Tuesday afternoon at Butz Field.

The Bulldogs have now won 13 of their last 14 games and improve to 15-5 overall.  After Rutgers-Newark scored four times in the first inning, DSU clawed its way back in the game with two runs in the first inning on RBI groundouts from senior Jack Kavetski and Mauro.

DSU plated one more in the third on an RBI single from senior Justin Scerbo and took the lead for good in the third with three tallies on an RBI single from freshman Alec Hardy and a two-RBI single from junior Charles Dennis.

The Bulldogs got some breathing room in the sixth scoring four times on a two-RBI single from Mauro and a sacrifice fly from Hardy to take a 10-5 lead and never looked back from there.

Sophomore Eric Elmer earned the win in relief pitching three innings allowing just one hit and one unearned run.  Junior Mark Fuse continued his hot hitting with three hits, two runs, and two RBIs, Scerbo had two hits and scored three times, junior Mark Westdyk had two hits, and Hardy finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs to lead a 16-hit offensive attack.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, April 5th when they host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
