Center Valley, PA (April 24, 2013) – Seniors
Jack Kavetski and
Brian Mauro combined to go 5-for-8 with a run scored and two RBIs in the middle of the lineup leading the DeSales University baseball team to its eighth straight win, 4-2 over the University of Scranton in a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Eric Dillard earned the win, his fourth of the year, tossing five innings allowing six hits and two runs, striking out five. Freshman
Steven Wallace entered and threw three shutout innings and sophomore
Tyler Harris and junior
Tyler Reyes combined to pitch out of a jam in the ninth with Reyes retiring the final batter to earn his fourth save of the season.
DSU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Kavetski singled, stole second and eventually scored on a base hit from freshman
Alec Hardy. The Royals answered with two runs in the top of the third but the Bulldogs immediately tied the game on an RBI double from Mauro in the bottom of the inning.
DeSales took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as freshman
Evan Fraser scored on a double play ground out after leading off the inning with a single and sophomore
Drew Borger trotted home on a two-out single from Mauro to centerfield.
Mauro finished with two more hits and two more RBIs including the 21st double of the season leaving him one short of tying the single-season record. Kavetski had three hits, Fraser totaled two base knocks, and Borger scored twice to lead the offensive attack.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday when they host King's College in the first of three games this weekend beginning at 3:30 pm.
