Wilkes-Barre, PA (April 27, 2013) – Senior Brian Mauro went 6-for-7 with four RBIs and five runs scored, breaking the single-season record for doubles with three on Saturday but the Bulldogs settled for a doubleheader split at King's, 5-4 and 14-4, falling to the #2 seed for the Freedom Conference playoffs next weekend at Quakertown's Memorial Park.

The Bulldogs will be the #2 seed finishing the Freedom Conference season with a 17-4 record, one game behind top seed Misericordia University.  DSU will take on the #3 seed, FDU-Florham, in the first round of the double elimination tournament next weekend on Friday evening, under the lights, at 7:00 pm.  Manhattanville College earns the #4 seed and will face Misericordia in the other opening round game.

DSU dropped game one on Saturday, opening the door for the Cougars to garner the top seed.  After seven well played innings, King's and the Bulldogs went to extra innings where DeSales scored two runs on failed pick-off throw giving DSU a 4-2 lead.  King's however had the answer scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to win, 5-4.

Junior Tyler Reyes took the loss allowing two hits in the bottom of the eighth, his first loss of the season.  Mauro finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and senior Derek Chrismer was outstanding with three hits and an RBI in game one.  Senior Colby Pacillo went seven innings allowing six hits and three runs, striking out four and not walking a batter.

DSU rolled in game two, scoring eight runs to extend a 3-1 lead into an 11-1 advantage in top of the fourth inning.  Mauro and Chrismer each had two-RBI doubles in the eight-run fourth as the first eight men reached base via hit.

Mauro finished the second game, 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBIs.  His double in the third inning gave him 23 doubles on the season, breaking Carson Slonaker's record of 22 set a few years ago.  Mauro added one more double in the fourth and now has 24 on the season.  He has upped his batting average to .500 with a team-high 51 RBIs this season.

Junior Mark Fuse added three hits and four runs scored in game two, senior Jack Kavetski was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, Chrismer had three more hits and knocked in four runs, while freshman Alec Hardy and sophomore Drew Borger each had two hits in the game two win.

Senior David Drinks improve to 6-0 on the year with his second complete-game scattering nine hits and allowing just two earned runs, striking out three.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action prior to next Friday when they host Muhlenberg College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm on Monday at Butz Field.
