Center Valley, PA (April 5, 2013) – The DeSales University baseball team saw its six-game winning streak snapped as Delaware Valley College took advantage of three Bulldog errors and eight walks by the DSU pitching staff with some timely hitting in a 13-5 win over the Bulldogs in Freedom Conference action on a gorgeous Friday afternoon.

The loss is the first in the Freedom Conference and just the second in the last 15 games for DeSales, while the Aggies improve to 12-10 overall and 3-6 in the Freedom.

The Bulldogs had a 4-2 lead early scoring once in the first, once in the second, and twice in the third as they stole seven bases in the first two innings but left several more scoring chances on the base paths and eventually the Aggies took control.

In the top of the fourth, DVC scored five times in an inning that featured three walks and three huge hits late in the inning by the Aggies, who took a 7-4 lead.  DSU went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning and DVC scored twice more in the fifth on two more walks and two costly errors in centerfield to take a 10-4 lead.

DSU put together a mini rally in the sixth scoring one run and had runners on the corners with two outs, but a weak groundout to the pitcher ended the threat and Delaware Valley tacked on three more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Freshman Steven Wallace took the loss allowing seven runs over 3.2 innings, walking four.  Of the eight walks issued by the Bulldog pitching staff, seven came around to score.

Junior Mark Westdyk was a bright spot at the plate going 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI and sophomore Drew Borger had two RBIs in the loss.

DSU must re-group quickly as they travel to Delaware Valley for the second and third games of the weekend series with first pitch set for Noon.
