Box Score
Center Valley, PA (September 14, 2013) – Sophomores
Meryah Harding and
Jesse Marshall each tallied goals leading the DeSales University field hockey team past Marywood University, 2-1, in the first game of the 2013 season for the Bulldogs.
DSU out-shot the Pacers, 12-7, and held a 15-7 edge in penalty corners. Harding started the scoring at 27:02 of the first half. Junior
Alison Malatesta fired a crossing pass just in front of the cage where Harding was to re-direct the ball up high and past the Pacer keeper into the net for a 1-0 DeSales lead that stood into the half.
Marshall provided the insurance goal at 40:55, taking control of the rebound of a shot from senior
Sam Szathmary off a corner feed and pushing the ball into the cage. The goal was Marshall's first goal off the season and the second of her career.
The insurance goal proved important as Marywood was able to get on the board with 1:54 left to play but DSU controlled play over the final 110 seconds to earn the win.
Sophomore
Becky Rasmuson made one save in the cage.
DSU returns to action on Tuesday, September 17th when they travel cross-town to face Cedar Crest College in a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
