Center Valley, PA (September 28, 2013) – Widener University tied the game with 4:41 left and found the game-winner exactly five minutes into the first overtime spoiling the DeSales University women's soccer team's chances of handing the Pride its first loss of the season in a 3-2 decision in overtime on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first-half that saw DSU (4-3-2) outshoot Widener (9-0-1), 6-2, the Pride got on the scoreboard first when Brae McQuade scored from just inside the top of the box on a bullet into the right side of the net at 57:18.

DSU needed just 6:36 to tie the game as senior Ashley Koren took a crossing pass from fellow senior Brady Walsh and fired a shot back to her far post where it ricochet into the net for a tie game at one.  Walsh then gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead in the 76th minute heading home a free kick into the box from junior Alyssa Borgesi.

DeSales continued to lead into the 86th minute when a long pass over the top was misjudged by a Bulldog defender and sailed over her head where Karen Thomas took control and dribbled uncontested to the end line, crossing a pass to Jenna Pedrick who was there to knock home the cross for a tie game once again.

The game headed into overtime where Widener attempted the only shot of the extra period as Amanda Doran slotted a pass thru the defense and Kelly Buckley beat a charging Bulldog keeper to the left post for the game-winner.

DSU controlled play for most of the game out-shooting the Pride, 14-10, while WU held a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.  The Bulldogs had two prime chances to score in the first half on two Widener mistakes creating 1-v-1 situations with the Pride keeper but both shots were hit off target and not on net keeping the game scoreless.

Junior Michelle Churchman made two saves in between the pipes.

The Bulldogs are back it on Wednesday, October 2nd when they host local rival Muhlenberg College beginning at 4:00 pm.
