Reading, PA (September 4, 2013) – The DeSales University field hockey team has had a tough start to the season, going scoreless for the second straight game, falling to Albright College, 1-0, in overtime on Wednesday afternoon.

The game featured a wild ending in which the referees, both coaches, and game administrators were unsure of the rules of overtime.  After both teams battled to a 0-0 tie thru 70 minutes of play the game headed into the first extra period.

Albright scored what eventually was the game-winning goal at 78:37.  DeSales players left the field thinking the game was over but the referees ordered them back saying it was not sudden death and the game continued.  DSU eventually tied the game at one, AC scored again to make it 2-1 and the Bulldogs tied it once again at two as the first overtime period came to an end.

A second 15-minute overtime period was played as well with neither team finding the back of a cage and the game seemed destined for strokes.  But before strokes began the coaches, referees, and game administrators realized they wrongly implemented the overtime rules and awarded the win to Albright College following its first goal in the first overtime.

Sophomore Becky Rasmuson was again solid in goal making five saves.  Albright out-shot DeSales, 16-8, and had a 10-7 advantage on penalty corners.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ramapo College for a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
