Center Valley, PA (January 15, 2014) – Five players reached double figures and the Bulldogs scored 38 points led by junior Mikelyn Mackavage with a game and career-high 20 points leading the DeSales University women's basketball team to its eighth straight win, 85-64, over King's College in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening in Billera Hall.

Mackavage's previous career-high was 11 points, accomplished in the second game of this season.  She was on fire tonight hitting 8-of-12 from the field including a 4-for-7 effort from three-point land in 20 minutes off the bench.  Also playing well of the bench was freshman Megan Baird with a season-high 13 points off the pine.

DSU also got production from its starters in the game as both junior Alex Suk and senior Megan Gallagher recorded double-doubles.  Suk tallied her fifth DD of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Gallagher notched her second double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Senior Sondrine Glovas also reached double figures with 16 points and sophomore Gabby Scott was outstanding at the point, dishing out eight assists and committing just two turnovers.

King's was led by Jessica McHugh with 14 points and six boards off the bench.  Jennifer Fabian added 13 points and Kayla Feairheller finished with 10 points.

After King's scored the opening bucket of the game, DSU reeled off nine straight points to take a 9-2 lead, seven of which came from Glovas.  The Lady Monarchs hung around and trailed by just five (15-10) with 11:58 left before consecutive three's from Mackavage pushed the lead to 11.

Five straight points from KC made it a seven-point game (24-17) with 7:22 to play before a 17-4 run  gave the Bulldogs a 22-point first-half lead before a Lady Monarch bucket with six ticks left posted the halftime score (45-25).  Baird had six points during the spurt, including two three's, and Suk added seven tallies.

After shooting just 32.1 percent from the field in the first-half, King's found its shooting touch in the second stanza, hitting on 51.9 percent from the field and cut into the Bulldogs lead early, erasing a 20-point halftime deficit down to 10 points several times over the first eight minutes.

It was a 12-point game after a three from McHugh at the 9:17 mark when Mackavage hit her fourth triple of the game igniting a 12-4 run over the next 3:38 that pushed the lead back to 20 (74-54) with 5:22 left to play and the Bulldogs cruised from there.

DSU finished the game shooting 45.3 percent from the field and hit 10-of-20 (50.0 percent) from outside the arc.  The Bulldogs controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Lady Monarchs, 41-30, and committed just 11 turnovers compared to 20 assists.  DeSales forced 19 King's turnovers, leading to 24 points.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday as they take to the road to face Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference contest beginning at 1:00 pm.
