Doylestown, PA (January 18, 2014) – The DeSales University women's basketball team dug themselves a hole they couldn't overcome falling behind by 20 at the half as a second-half comeback fell just short falling at Delaware Valley College, 70-67, snapping DSU's eight-game winning streak in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sondrine Glovas led scoring attack with 19 points, 15 in the second-half, and senior Alexiah Grant added 17 points as the lone double digit scorers.  Senior Megan Gallagher had eight points, nine rebounds, and five assists in the loss.

Eireann Anastasi led all scorers with 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field.  Brenna Coll and Kelsey Kilpatrick each added 13 points in the win.

A sloppy first nine minutes of the game saw DVC leading 14-10 before they took complete control using a 20-4 run over the next 5:19 to lead 34-14 with 5:41 remaining in the half.

A lay-up from Gallagher was the only made basket over the next 3:36 for either team and two Glovas free throws with 32 ticks left made it a 20-point game at the break (38-18).  DSU shot just 25.9 percent from the field and committed 13 turnovers in the opening twenty minutes.

The Bulldogs jumped out of the second-half gates opening the second-half with a 7-0 run to quickly the trim lead down to 13 points.  The contest went back-and-forth over the next 10 minutes with DSU unable to get any closer still trailing by 13 points (60-47) with 7:44 to play.

A three from junior Mikelyn Mackavage started another 7-0 run cutting the margin down to five points (62-57) with 3:56 left to play.  It again went back and forth before a lay-up from Grant cut the lead down to three points (66-63) with 1:02 to go.

DVC got a free throw and Glovas then made it a two-point game on a put back with 28 seconds left as the Bulldogs fouled Anastasi with 22 ticks left.  Anastasi made both and Grant again made it a two-point game with one second left as Anastasi was again fouled.  She made the second of two and a half-court shot from Grant was short as time expired on the comeback.

DeSales shot much better in the second-half (54.3%) but ran out of time in the comeback attempt.  The Bulldogs hurt themselves at the foul line hitting an uncharacteristically low 52.4 percent from the free throw.  DeSales came into the game hitting 71.7 percent from charity stripe.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday when they travel up to Misericordia University for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
