Center Valley, PA (January 25, 2014) – Eastern University out-scored the Bulldogs 16-5 over the final four minutes of the game breaking a tie at 53 in a 69-58 win over the DeSales University women's basketball team in Freedom Conference action on another snowy Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sondrine Glovas led the Bulldogs with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, recording her second double-double of the season and fellow senior Alexiah Grant also reached double figures with 13 points, but shot just 4-for-24 from the field.  Senior Megan Gallagher added nine points and six boards in the loss.

Junior Meghan Nowak had 20 points and nine rebounds, Kaitlyn Dougherty finished with 19 points, and Gina DiDomenico added 11 tallies to lead Eastern.  Freshman Emily Lavin finished with a team-high 10 rebounds and blocked five shots.

After junior Alex Suk tied the game at 53 with 5:25 left to play the Bulldogs had two opportunities to take the lead in transition but a missed lay-up and a walking violation on back-to-back possessions gave Eastern a chance to take the lead itself and they capitalized grabbing two offensive rebounds that eventually led to a three-pointer from Dougherty with 4:03 left to play.

The two teams traded baskets over the next four possessions as EU increased its lead to four points after a Dougherty three-point play (61-57) with 2:35 remaining.  Grant's lay-up on the other end was blocked and Lavin answered her own block with a huge jumper from the top of the key making it a six-point game.

The Bulldogs saw back-to-back possessions result in missed shots before Grant hit 1-of-2 free throws with 45 seconds left cutting the lead down to five points but the Eagles hit 6-of-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch to ice the game as DeSales went 2-for-10 from the field over the final five minutes snapping its five-game home winning streak.

The game featured eight total ties and nine lead changes.  DSU led 6-0 early as they held the Eagles off the scoreboard for the first 4:43 of the game before DiDomenico ended the drought with a three-pointer.  The Bulldogs had a 24-21 advantage with 5:31 left to play in the opening half before Eastern finished the half on a 14-4 run to take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.

DeSales continued to trail by seven points (41-34) with 14:25 left before a 13-2 run capped off by back-to-back three's from Glovas gave the Bulldogs a four-point cushion (47-43) before Eastern chipped away at the lead and took control over the final five minutes of the game.

DSU shot just 30.8 percent from the field for the game, while Eastern hit on 49.0 percent, going 7-for-12 from three-point land.  EU also won the battle on the boards, out-rebounding DeSales, 40-34.  DSU forced 24 Eagle turnovers in the loss.

The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Wednesday when they host Manhattanville College in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
