Center Valley, PA (October 1, 2014) – Trailing 2-0 and being out-shot 12-6 at the half, the DeSales University men's soccer team exploding in the second-half, scoring six goals, to route Albright College, 6-2, on Wednesday afternoon.
Albright (5-5-1) scored just 2:12 in the game and added a second tally in the 26
th minute to lead 2-0 on the Bulldogs at the break as DeSales (5-5-1) took just six shots in the opening half.
The second-half was all Bulldogs.
Sophomore
Wes Frebel got things started just 45 seconds into the second half scoring off an assist from fellow sophomore
Alex Peek.
It was a one goal game over the next twenty minutes when senior
Phil Bortz scored in the 66
th minute to tie the score at two on a corner kick feed from freshman
Joey Malvestuto.
The game remained tied over the next 10 minutes before the flood gates opened as the Bulldogs scored four goals in a span of 13 minutes and 40 seconds to take complete control of the contest.
Junior
Patrick Roche started the onslaught at 75:18 on an assist from Peek and the two reversed roles just 1:05 later as Peek scored on a nice pass over the top of the defense leading to a breakaway with the goalie for Peek who beat him inside the far post at 76:23.
Frebel then tallied his second of the game on Peek's third assist of the game on a nice thru ball leading to a breakaway for Frebel and Malvestuto put the exclamation point on the comeback scoring from about 30 yards on a free kick that sailed high and just inside the far post from the left sideline.
Senior
Colin Sulpizio made 10 saves in between the pipes as Albright finished the game out-shooting DeSales, 24-10. DSU had an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday as they open Freedom Conference play at Wilkes University with a start time set for 5:00 pm.
