Center Valley, PA (October 11, 2014) – Junior
Becky Rasmuson was outstanding on Saturday making 10 saves, leading the DeSales University field hockey team past Wilkes University, 4-2, in Freedom Conference action to keep the Bulldogs undefeated in conference play.
Rasmuson made several terrific saves and a few other key plays on clears inside the circle holding Wilkes (4-8, 1-2 Freedom) to just two goals in the win. She stopped 10-of-12 shots on goal.
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead just 9:29 into the game on its first shot of the game but Rasmuson was up to the task from that point forward.
Sophomore
Alexa Beaumont got DSU (9-4, 3-0 Freedom) on the board at 20:53 tipping home a tip in front of the cage by junior
Jesse Marshall to tie the score.
Junior
Meryah Harding got into the scoring act 10:08 later taking control of a loose ball in the box and firing a shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the season giving DSU a 2-1 lead into the half.
Harding gave the Bulldogs an insurance goal at 57:15 scoring from the top of the circle off a corner feed from Marshall and Beaumont equaled Harding's second tally of the game with her second, pushing across a tip from Marshall at the goal line just 1:30 after Harding's second.
The Colonels cut the lead down to two at 62:06 when
Savannah McCauley scored but the Bulldog defense and Rasmuson did the rest.
DeSales held a 20-15 edge in shots and had a 16-7 advantage in penalty corners for the game.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Arcadia University for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
