Bulldogs Clinch Home Playoff Game in 3-0 Win at Delaware Valley

Doylestown, PA (October 21, 2014) – The DeSales University women's soccer team scored three times in the second-half to earn a 3-0 win over Delaware Valley College clinching not only a Freedom Conference playoff berth but no worse than the #2 seed and at least one home playoff game on Tuesday afternoon.

It will be DSU's (8-5-3, 5-0 Freedom) fourth Freedom Conference playoff berth and the first since the 2008 season.  It also marks the first time DeSales will be seeded among the top two.  The Bulldogs did have a home playoff game in 2008 when they hosted the #4/#5 first round game when the conference consisted of nine teams.

Senior Michelle Churchman made five saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season, tying the single-season record set by Kelly Hinkle in 2006 and now has 12 career shutouts.

After a scoreless first-half junior Jamie Barna got the Bulldogs on the board at 61:41 heading home a crossing pass to the back post that sailed over the Delaware Valley keeper's head where Barna leaped over a defender to head the ball in the net.

Just 1:48 later sophomore Jess Wetherhold made it a two-goal game, taking control of a header just inside midfield, dribbling into the Aggie defense and firing a shot from the top of the box that was tipped by the DVC keeper but had enough juice on it to slowly roll inside the post in the left corner for her second goal of the year.

Freshman Danni Engwall provided the exclamation point at 80:31 taking control of a loose ball on the left side of the box and firing a laser inside the far post for her third tally of the year.

DSU out-shot Delaware Valley, 20-11, while the Aggies had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks for the game.

The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they look to win six conference games in a season for the first time in school-history when they host Eastern University beginning at Noon.
