Bulldogs Win Streak Snapped at Five with 3-0 Loss to Susquehanna

Center Valley, PA (October 24, 2014) – Susquehanna University fought off two set points in the first set and went on to earn a 3-0 win (26-24, 25-17, 25-19) over the DeSales University volleyball team snapping the Bulldogs five-match winning streak on Friday evening in Billera Hall.

The Bulldogs (20-8 overall) were down 21-19 late in the first set before scoring five of the next six points to take a 24-22 lead, leading to a Crusader (26-6 overall) timeout.  Following the timeout, SU fought off the first set point winning an extremely long rally and tied the game at 24 on a kill from Jessica Holm.  An attack error earned Susquehanna its first set point and after a Bulldog timeout they cashed in on a kill from Hayley Dunkel ending the first set, 26-24.

The second set was tight with SU leading 16-15 before the Crusaders won eight straight points to take a 24-15 lead ultimately the match and in the third set SU again led a tight match, 16-15, before taking an 18-15 lead and won the last four points of the match to win 25-19.

Senior Julie Blessing led the attack with 11 kills, while senior Brooke Horrigan added six kills and two blocks.  Sophomore Lisa Wallitsch played well with four kills, 27 assists, and 14 digs and senior Amanda Wallitsch led the defense with 18 digs.  She enters tomorrow's matches needing just 25 digs to become the second player in school-history with over 2,000 digs in a career.

The Bulldogs will host SUNY-Canton (11 am) and Marywood University (5 pm) on day two of the Bulldog Rumble.
