Bulldogs Set School-Record for Wins; Clinch #3 Seed in Freedom Tourney

Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 28, 2014) – Senior Alyssa Malatesta scored her eighth goal of the season and junior Becky Rasmuson recorded her sixth shutout of the year leading the DeSales University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over King's College, clinching the #3 seed in next week's Freedom Conference Tournament.

The win is the 11th of the year for DeSales (11-7, 5-2 Freedom) as the Bulldogs set a new school-record for wins in a season surpassing the previous mark of 10 set in the inaugural season of 2004.  The five Freedom Conference wins are also the most in a season, topping the previous best of four set last season.

The Freedom Conference Tournament seeding is also set with the Bulldogs earning the #3 seed and will travel to face #2 seed Misericordia University next Wednesday.  FDU-Florham earns the top spot and Wilkes University will be the #4 seed.  Game times for next week are to be announced.

Rasmuson records her sixth shutout of the season, extending her single-season record, and the seventh of her career, just one shy of tying the all-time record of eight.  She made one save in the win on Tuesday evening.

DSU scored the game-winner at 32:07 just before the half when Malatesta finished a cross into the box by junior Jesse Marshall.

The Bulldogs out-shot King's, 9-3, and had a 14-6 edge in penalty corners for the game.

DeSales won't return to action until next Wednesday when they travel to Misericordia for the opening round of the Freedom Conference Tournament with a game to be announced.
