Bulldogs Stay Unbeaten in Freedom; Record First-Ever Win at Eastern

St. David's, PA (October 4, 2014) – For the first time in four tries the DeSales University field hockey team left Eastern University a winner, using three first-half goals to stay unbeaten in the Freedom Conference and earn a 3-2 win over the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.

In DSU's previous three games played at Eastern, the Bulldogs were out-scored 21-2, but on Saturday it was a different story as DeSales (7-4, 2-0 Freedom) scored three times in the first-half to open up a 3-1 lead and held on late in the second-half to earn the one-goal win.  The Bulldogs are now tied at the top of the Freedom standings thru two games with Misericordia who is also 2-0 to start the conference schedule.

After EU's Megan Bolton scored 3:40 into the game to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead, sophomore Alexa Beaumont tied the game at 15:53 taking control of a rebound and pushing a shot past an Eagle defender guarding the end line for her seventh goal of the season.

The game remained tied for just under the next 15 minutes when junior Meryah Harding gave DSU the advantage soring her second goal of the year on a perfectly executed corner off a pass from senior Alison Malatesta.

The Bulldogs weren't done in the half as junior Jesse Marshall scored off a rebound at 32:25 for her fourth goal of the season and a 3-1 lead for DeSales at the break.

Bolton made it a one-goal game just 2:51 into the second-half, scoring in the upper left corner on a penalty stroke but the Bulldogs defense did the rest.  Junior Becky Rasmuson made eight saves in the win and senior Rachel Wysocky had a defensive save in the first-half.

The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, October 7th when they travel to Richard Stockton College for a non-conference game starting at 7:00 pm.
