Strong Second-Half Leads Bulldogs past Immaculata, 63-58

Immaculata, PA (November 22, 2014) – Freshman Leandra Sterner scored nine of her team-high 13 points over the final 4:29 leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Immaculata University, 63-58, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Sterner picked up three fouls in the first-half and only saw 21 minutes of action because of foul trouble but finished strong going 6-for-13 from the field in the win.  Senior Alex Suk recorded her first double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Junior Kelly Anthony added a season-high nine points and grabbed six rebounds, sophomore Morgan McCollian had eight points and eight rebounds, and sophomore Megan Baird finished with eight points in the win.

Adriana Sciascia led the Mighty Macs with 16 points, Sara Smith added 12 points, and Brittany Merkle finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

DSU started strong opening up a 9-3 lead before going ice cold from the field.  The Bulldogs went scoreless over the next 9:51 after taking a six-point lead early as IU went on a 14-0 run during DSU's drought before sophomore Cara McHenry ended the run with a jumper at the 5:47 mark.

That McHenry jumper sparked a 16-7 Bulldog run that gave DSU a 25-24 lead before a jumper from the Mighty Macs gave them a 26-25 lead heading into the locker room.

It was back and forth over the first 12 minutes of the second-half before DeSales pulled away turning a one-point lead into a nine point lead after an 8-0 run led by six points from Suk with 5:18 remaining in the game.

IU got within three points with 46 seconds left but five straight points from Sterner pushed the lead back to eight points sealing the win for the Bulldogs.

DeSales dominated the glass out-rebounding Immaculata 51-35 for the game.  DSU shot 48.6 percent from the field after hitting just 30.0 percent in the opening half.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to cross town rival Moravian College for a non-conference game beginning at 6:00 pm.
