Bulldogs Fall to Misericordia, 3-0, in Freedom Title Game

Center Valley, PA (November 8, 2014) – Misericordia University scored three first-half goals leading to a 3-0 win over the DeSales University women's soccer team claiming its third straight Freedom Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs see their nine game unbeaten streak fall as DSU falls to 10-6-4 overall.  DSU will await a potential ECAC Tournament bid to be announced on Monday afternoon, hoping to continue its season past today.

The Cougars claim the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with the pairings to be announced also on Monday and will enter the tournament with a 17-2-1 overall record.

Senior Megan Mahoney claimed Tournament MVP honors scoring all three of MU's goals in the win.  She opened the scoring 4:36 into the game scoring on a free kick just outside the box on the right side that sailed just under the cross bar and into the net out of the reach of the DSU keeper.

It remained a one-goal game into the 24th minute when Misericordia struck twice in the span of 54 seconds as Mahoney took a thru pass from Meghan Antrim, dribbled around a charging keeper, and scored her second of the day and then 54 seconds later headed in a centering pass to give MU a three goal lead.

MU had an 8-0 advantage on shots in the first-half.

The Bulldogs controlled most of the play in the second-half, out-shooting the Cougars 7-6, but were never able to get one past junior Maureen Ciccosanti, who made two saves to record the shutout.

MU finished the game out-shooting DSU, 14-7, and had a slim 5-2 edge in shots on goal.  Senior Michelle Churchman made two saves and senior Brady Walsh had a team-high four shots in the loss for the Bulldogs.
