Wilkes-Barre, PA (February 18, 2014) – Senior
Alexiah Grant scored a career-high 32 points, including the 1,000th of her career, leading the DeSales University women's basketball team past Wilkes University, 71-53, in Freedom Conference action on Tuesday evening in the Marts Center.

The Bulldogs (19-5, 9-4 Freedom) are now one win away from a 20-win season, which would be their first 20-win season since the 2008-09 season and the 19th in program history.  DSU also controls its own destiny in the race for a home playoff game, needing just a win on Saturday at Eastern to lock up the #2 seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament next week.  Game time on Saturday is set for 2:00 pm vs. the Eagles.

Grant becomes the 21st player in team history with 1,000 points.  She shot 13-for-24 from the field and hit four three-pointers in the win.  Senior
Sondrine Glovas added 14 points, 12 in the second-half, despite playing just 17 minutes due to foul trouble and junior
Alex Suk recorded her team-leading seventh double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Senior
Megan Gallagher pulled down 10 boards and four steals in the win.

Wilkes (5-19, 2-11 Freedom) was led by
Elena Stambone with 19 points and
Chelsea Brown with 16 points accounting for 35 of the Colonels 53 points.

The Bulldogs started strong scoring seven of the first eight points, all by Grant, to lead by six and continued to lead by seven (20-13) midway thru the half.  The lead grew to as many as nine points (25-16) before the Colonels chipped away to pull within one before two Grant free throws finished the half with DSU lead, 31-28, at the break.

Wilkes opened the half strong, taking its first and only lead of the game, 33-32.  The game was tied at 35 when Grant scored eight straight points to put the Bulldogs up eight (43-35).

Glovas, who was saddled with three fouls in just five minutes in the first-half, re-entered the game with 12:17 left to play and DSU dominated from there.

Leading by three (45-42) with 12:14 to go, Glovas hit a three igniting a 14-6 run that pushed the lead up to 11 points (59-48) with 7:27 to go.  Glovas had eight of the 14 points, including two three's.  The lead never fell below double digits the rest of the way and was highlighted by a three from Grant at the 4:45 mark giving her 30+ points in a game for the first time and 1,000 career tallies in her career.

DSU hit on 45.5 percent from the field in the second-half and held a 40-32 lead on the glass for the game.  The Bulldogs also forced 22 turnovers in the win and had more assists (16) than turnovers (12).
