Center Valley, PA (February 24, 2014) – The DeSales University women's basketball team will enter the Freedom Conference Tournament for the 17th consecutive year as the #3 seed having finished the regular season tied for second and will return to Eastern University in a rematch of a loss this past Saturday on Wednesday evening looking to earn a trip to the Freedom Conference Championship game.
The Bulldogs (19-6, 9-5 Freedom) have never missed the Freedom Conference post-season since joining the conference at the start of the 1997-98 season. DSU is one win shy of its first 20-win season since 2008-09 and its 19th overall. One more win would be head coach
Fred Richter's 12th 20-win season in his 24th year on the sideline.
Game time is set for 7:00 pm and admission for the event will be $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for senior citizens, and $2.00 for students w/ID. All children under the age of six are FREE.

DeSales/Eastern Series:
DeSales owns a 23-6 lead in the all-time series between the two teams but Eastern has had the upper hand this season sweeping the season series. This will be the first-ever match-up between the two in the Freedom Conference post-season. The Bulldogs are 8-5 all-time at Eastern.
Regular Season Series
Game One at DeSales (EU – 69-58)
Eastern University won for the first-time ever in Billera Hall shooting 49.0 percent from the field while the Bulldogs hit just 30.8 percent from the field. Eastern pulled away late using a 16-5 run over the final four minutes to break a tie at 53 in the win. Senior
Sondrine Glovas had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds and senior
Alexiah Grant added 13 points. Eastern was led by junior
Meghan Nowak with 20 points and nine rebounds, while junior
Kaitlyn Dougherty finished with 19 points.
Game Two at Eastern (EU – 79-69)
Just like the first game, Eastern used a late run, 21-6 this time, to break open a two-point game and take a 17-point lead late in the second-half. EU once again torched the nets hitting 51.0 percent from the field, while DSU shot just 32.1 percent. Senior
Alexiah Grant was outstanding with a game-high 30 points and senior
Megan Gallagher added 17 points to lead DeSales. The Eagles got 26 points and nine rebounds from junior
Meghan Nowak and 21 points from junior
Kaitlyn Dougherty and 15 points from sophomore
Gina DiDomenico.
DeSales in the Freedom Playoffs:
DeSales is making its 17th straight Freedom Conference playoff appearance. DSU joined the Freedom Conference at the start of the 1997-98 season and hasn't missed the post-season. The Bulldogs have won six conference titles, including four of the last six, and are 18-10 all-time in the Freedom post-season. DSU is 6-9 all-time on the road in the Freedom playoffs.
Eastern in the Freedom Playoffs:
Eastern is making its third straight appearance in the Freedom Conference postseason. EU joined the Freedom Conference at the start of the 2008-09 season. The Eagles are 0-2 losing at King's College by two points two years ago and at FDU-Florham last year.

The Bulldogs enter the post-season just one win shy of its first 20+ win season since 2009 and having finished tied for second in the Freedom Conference standings with Eastern…DeSales has been led all season by the senior trio of

Alexiah Grant, and
Megan Gallagher…Grant leads both the team and the Freedom Conference in scoring at 18.4 points per game entering the post-season…she just recently scored her 1,000th career point in the win at Wilkes and is averaging 31.0 points over her last two games…Glovas averages 17.2 points per game and enters the post-season ranked third on DeSales' all-time scoring list with 1,590 career points…she has four double-doubles on the season and is ranked among the top seven all-time in eight different statistical categories…Gallagher is averaging 9.9 points and a team-high 8.7 rebounds per game…she has six double-doubles on the season and leads both the team and the Freedom Conference with 71 steals this year…junior
Alex Suk is averaging 8.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and leads the team with seven double-doubles…as a team DSU is ranked second in the Freedom Conference in three-point shooting percentage (31.3), free throw percentage (70.1), and points per game (71.4)…the Bulldogs are 13-0 this season when scoring 70+ points, 17-1 when they hold the opposition to under 45% shooting from the field, and 17-2 when they hold the opposition under 70 points.
About the Eagles:
Eastern finished the regular season with a 14-11 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the Freedom Conference, tied with the Bulldogs for second place but earn the tiebreaker and Wednesday's home game by virtue of its season sweep over DeSales…junior
Meghan Nowak leads the team in both scoring (16.2 PPG) and rebounding (8.6 RPG), while fellow junior
Kaitlyn Dougherty is the only other double digit scorer averaging 13.5 points per game…Dougherty also leads the team with 91 assists (3.6 APG)…sophomore
Gina DiDomenico is averaging 9.8 points and leads the team with 44 made three-pointers, shooting 41.1 percent from beyond the arc…freshman
Emily Lavin is averaging 8.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and is the team leader with 75 blocked shots on the season.
