Madison, NJ (March 1, 2014) – FDU-Florham used two different 11-0 runs in the second-half to earn its second straight Freedom Conference championship holding off the Bulldogs upset bid in a 69-59 win over DeSales on Saturday afternoon in the Ferguson Recreation Center.

The Bulldogs (20-7 overall) must now play the waiting game as they wait and hope for a potential Pool "C" bid into the NCAA Tournament.  The tournament field is announced on Monday with the woman's selection show slated for 2:30 pm.  If DSU doesn't get an at-large bid its season will be over.

Senior Alexiah Grant led DeSales with 16 points, freshman Morgan McCollian added 12 points and six boards, and seniors Sondrine Glovas and Megan Gallagher each had 11 tallies in the loss.  Gallagher added nine rebounds and five steals for the Bulldogs.

Sophomore Rachel Groom led the Devils with 16 points and eight boards to earn MVP honors.  Senior Jalessa Lewis added 14 points and four steals, Kara Dayon had 11 points and four steals, and Kyra Dayon finished with 10 points and three steals in the win.

The Bulldogs were up to the challenge against the undefeated Devils in the first-half erasing a six-point deficit (19-13) over the final 4:23 of the half with a10-3 run to take a 23-22 lead into the locker room on two free throws with 37 seconds left by Grant.  Grant led the charge with 13 of DSU's 23 points at the break.

A lay-up right out of the gate by McCollian made it a three-point game and another lay-up from sophomore Gabby Scott put DSU up 27-25 32 seconds into the second-half when FDU started its first 11-0 run to take a nine-point lead (36-27) with 16:35 remaining.

The game went back-and-forth over the next 9:28 with each team trading baskets and after a three from Grant and a lay-up from Glovas DSU trailed by just six points (53-47) at the 7:07 mark.

FDU took over from there though embarking on its second 11-0 run to take a 64-47 advantage at the 3:59 mark and the Devils never looked back from there.

The Bulldogs did a nice job forcing four more turnovers on the Devils and out-rebounded FDU, 39-38, but shot just 32.8 percent from the field as compared to 44.9 percent for FDU.

DSU's 20-wins mark the 12th time under head coach Fred Richter the Bulldogs have won 20+ games and the 19th time overall for the women's basketball program.
