Center Valley, PA (March 22, 2014) – The DeSales University baseball team completed its three-game sweep of King's College on Saturday sweeping the final two games of the weekend series with a 12-6 game one win and a 5-2 game two win at Butz Field.
In the first game, DeSales (4-7, 3-0 Freedom) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before King's (1-8, 0-5 Freedom) scored six runs in the top of the second inning to take a 6-2 lead. The Bulldogs answered with six runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, all coming with two outs, including RBI singles from seniors
Brian Mauro and
Mark Westdyk and a two RBI single from junior
Nick Fischer.
The Bulldog bullpen did the rest blanking the Monarchs over the final five frames and DSU added one run in the fifth on an RBI triple from senior
Charles Dennis and three more in the sixth on a two-RBI double from sophomore
Alec Hardy and an RBI double from Mauro.
Freshman
Tyler Cooperman earned the win pitching 3.2 innings of hitless relief, striking out one. Freshman
Tommy DePaul had two hits and scored three times, Mauro finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs, Fischer had two hits and three RBIs, senior
Mark Fuse scored three times, and Dennis added two hits in the game one win.
In the second game, sophomore
Chris Polaski was outstanding, earning his first win of the season pitching 5.1 solid innings allowing just two hits and striking out six. Freshman
Cameron Hoos earned the save with a scoreless seventh inning.
DSU led 1-0 after one inning as DePaul scored on a wild pitch after singling to lead off the game. King's rallied with two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead but the Bulldogs immediately answered with three tallies in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-2 lead that included an RBI double from Hardy and a sacrifice fly from DePaul.
Mauro was the lone Bulldog with multiple hits, recording two in the game two win.
The Bulldogs are back at it tomorrow hosting Misericordia University in another Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at Noon at Butz Field.
