Madison, NJ (April 11, 2014) – Senior Brian Mauro hit a three-run home run in the third inning giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead but FDU-Florham scored five times in both the fourth and fifth innings to earn an 11-5 win over the DeSales University baseball team in the first of three games this weekend.

After sophomore Carrington Santana reached on an error and later scored on an RBI single from sophomore Alec Hardy, freshman Tommy DePaul followed with a base hit and Mauro blasted a three-run homer with two outs in the third giving DSU (11-11, 8-3 Freedom) a 4-0 lead thru three innings.

Junior Trevor Connors was cruising thru the first three innings allowing just one base-runner and no hits before a lead-off single in the fourth.  Another single put runners on first and second before a Bulldog error by Santana gave the Devils their first run.

The bases were then loaded with two outs four batters later but consecutive two-out singles gave FDU four unearned runs and 5-4 lead after four frames.

FDU blew it open in the fifth with five more runs on six hits and two walks to lead 10-4 and never looked back from there.

Connors suffered the loss allowing five hits and three earned runs over 4 1/3 innings pitched.  Senior Mark Westdyk had two hits and DePaul scored twice in the loss.

These two teams are back it tomorrow at Butz Field for games two and three of the three-game weekend set beginning at 1:00 pm.
