Center Valley, PA (April 12, 2014) – Freshman Cameron Hoos recorded a four-out save, his sixth of the season, and freshman Tommy DePaul made a game-saving diving catch to end the sixth inning leading the DeSales University baseball team to a doubleheader split with FDU-Florham, losing game one, 5-2, before taking game two, 5-4, in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

In the opener the Bulldogs (12-12, 9-4 Freedom) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an RBI squeeze bunt from senior Mark Fuse plating DePaul but the Devils (13-7, 9-3 Freedom) responded in the top of the fifth plating four runs all with two outs on five singles and a walk and FDU's Andrew Hille did the rest allowing just six hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings striking out nine.

DSU did bring the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning but junior Bobby Bray got senior Mark Westdyk looking with the bases loaded to end the game.

Sophomore Chris Polaski took the loss allowing nine hits and five runs over 6 2/3 innings, striking out nine. DePaul had two of DSU's six hits in the game one loss.

In the second game, the Bulldogs struck early scoring four times in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from sophomore Alec Hardy, RBI single from Fuse, RBI single from freshman Mike Kacergis, and an FDU wild pitch to lead 4-1.  DSU added another run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Hardy scoring DePaul giving the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead.

FDU chipped away scoring once in the fourth and fifth to trail 5-4 heading into the sixth inning.  With two runners on first and second and two outs in the sixth, head coach Tim Neiman brought in Hoos who got the Devils' lead-off hit to pop out to shallow centerfield on a diving catch from DePaul to end the threat.  Hoos then retired FDU in order, striking out two, in the top of the seventh to give DSU the win.

Sophomore Steven Wallace earned the win going four innings allowing just three hits and one earned run, while Hoos picked up his sixth save of the year.  Hardy had two RBIs as five different Bulldogs had hits in the win.

DSU is right back to the diamond tomorrow when they travel to Wilkes University for another Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
