Season Photo GalleryCenter Valley, PA (April 12, 2014) – The DeSales University men's lacrosse team scored six straight goals after falling behind 2-0 and out-scored Arcadia University, 3-0, in the fourth quarter to earn an 11-7 win clinching not only a Freedom Conference playoff berth but also a home playoff game on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-7, 4-0 Freedom) have now won five straight games and clinch a Freedom Conference playoff spot for the second straight year and for the third time in team history. The home playoff game will be the first-ever for DeSales having played on the road in its first two career appearances. DSU still has two more Freedom Conference games left in the regular season and with two wins could still earn the top seed and the right to host at home throughout the conference postseason.
Arcadia (5-6, 1-2 Freedom) got out of the gates quickly on Saturday scoring the first two goals to lead 2-0 7:37 into the game. Senior
Jacob Bernier got DSU on the board at the 5:18 mark and the Bulldogs dominated the second quarter with five straight goals to start the period to take a 6-2 lead before the Knights finished with two goals, including one with one second left, to trail by just two (6-4) at the break.
The Bulldogs pushed the lead back to four goals (8-4) over the first 7:42 of the third period before Arcadia closed the quarter with three straight goals to pull within one tally (8-7) entering the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Justin Wilson gave DeSales an insurance goal with an unassisted goal at the 13:19 mark of the last quarter and junior
Nate Blevins and senior
Bruce Peditto each scored 35 seconds apart to give DSU an 11-7 lead and ultimately the win.
Senior
James Guerrier led the way with two goals and two assists to become the seventh player in team history with 100 career points, finishing the game with 102 career points. Bernier added three goals and Blevins finished with two gorgeous goals and one assist.
Peditto had two goals, junior
Ryan Loughlin had two goals and an assist, Wilson deposited one goal, and freshman
Jake McNamara had an assist to round out the scoring leaders.
Junior
Dylan Baxter won 10-of-20 face-offs and picked up a team-high six ground balls, while sophomore
Matt Warnken was outstanding in goal making 13 saves in between the pipes.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, April 16
th when they host Messiah College beginning at 4:00 pm. DSU's five wins are the most consecutive wins in team history eclipsing the previous mark of four set three times.
