Season Photo GalleryWilkes-Barre, PA (April 13, 2014) – The DeSales University baseball team swept two games at Wilkes University on Sunday afternoon by scores of 7-2 and 8-5 to complete the three-game season series sweep of the Colonels in Freedom Conference action.
The Bulldogs (14-12, 11-4 Freedom) are now tied for first place with Misericordia University with six games remaining in each team's schedule with FDU-Florham just one game back at 10-4 as the Devils still have seven games left to play heading down the stretch of the regular season.
In the opener on Sunday DeSales never trailed scoring twice in the first inning on an RBI single from senior

Tyler Sweeney stole home on a double steal with fellow freshman
Tommy DePaul. Mauro added a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put DSU up 3-1 and the Bulldogs added two unearned runs in the fourth inning and two more unearned runs in the seventh inning to provide the final tally.
Freshman
Andrew Schuler improved to 3-0 on the season tossing a complete-game, the first of his career, allowing just five hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out five. Sweeney had two hits and scored twice, Mauro had two hits and two RBIs, and senior
Mark Fuse also had two hits in the game one win.
In the second game DSU had to fight back trailing 3-2 after one inning and 5-2 thru four innings before rallying. In the top of the fifth inning the Bulldogs plated four runs to take a 6-5 lead on three hits, including an RBI single from junior
Nick Fischer, two walks, and a hit batter.
The Bulldogs then added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh on a costly two-out error by the Colonels. Freshman
Cameron Hoos did the rest retiring Wilkes in order in the bottom of the seventh to record his seventh save of the year. Sophomore
Evan Fraser earned the win relief tossing three innings allowing just three hits and one run, striking out two. Sophomore
Chris Zampini also pitched well going two innings allowing just one hit.
Fischer finished with three hits and two RBIs, Fuse had two more hits in game two, and freshman
Jesse Smoot had two hits.
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they host Rutgers-Camden in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
