Seven-Run First Inning Propels Bulldogs past Eastern, 12-5

Center Valley, PA (April 17, 2014) – Junior Jonathan Bujtas knocked in five runs, including three in the first inning on a bases clearing triple, as the Bulldogs scored seven times in the first inning en route to a 12-5 win over Eastern University in Freedom Conference action on Thursday afternoon at Butz Field.
 
DSU (16-13, 12-4 Freedom) saw its first seven batters reach base in the first inning, chasing EU's starter before he recorded an out.  Senior Brian Mauro had an RBI single, sophomore Alec Hardy was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Bujtas knocked in three with a bases clearing triple.  Freshman Chris Lee and Tyler Sweeney each knocked in the final two runs of the inning.
 
EU got three runs back in the top of the second on a two-out error by the Bulldogs but DeSales scored at least one run in each of the first four innings to take a 12-3 lead before the final margin was posted.
 
Sweeney finished 3-for-5, freshman Tommy DePaul was also 3-for-5 with two runs scored, junior Nick Fischer had two hits and two runs scored, Hardy was 3-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, Bujtas finished with two hits and five RBIs, and Lee had two RBIs in the win.
 
Sophomore Chris Polaski earned his third win of the season last five innings allowing six hits and striking out four.  Four Bulldogs combined to allow just one hit over the final four frames.
 
DSU returns to action on Monday when they travel to Eastern University for a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
