St. David's, PA (April 21, 2014) – The Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning in game one and pounded out 15 hits in game two en route to a 5-3 and 9-3 doubleheader sweep of Eastern University in Freedom Conference action on Monday afternoon to complete the three-game season sweep of the Eagles.

The wins keep DeSales (18-13, 14-4) in a first-place tie with Misericordia University heading into the final weekend of the season.  The Bulldogs own the tiebreaker over the Cougars by virtue of taking two of three from MU earlier in the season and with a three-game sweep of Delaware Valley College this weekend can clinch the #1 seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament in two weeks.

In the opener on Monday the Bulldogs bullpen allowed just two base-runners over three innings and DSU scored twice in the eighth inning to earn the 5-3 win.  Freshman Chris Lee knocked in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly and sophomore Carrington Santana scored one batter later on a throwing error by the second baseman trying to double up a runner at first after a line out.

Sophomore Evan Fraser earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief and freshman Cameron Hoos picked up his eighth save of the year.  DSU scored once in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead when senior Charles Dennis doubled home fellow senior Mark Westdyk.  The Bulldogs trailed 2-1 entering the fifth when they took a 3-2 lead on RBI singles from junior Nick Fischer and Westdyk before Eastern tied the game at three in the bottom of the inning.

Fischer and Dennis each had two hits in the game one win.

In the second game the Bulldogs scored twice in the second, once each in the third and fifth, and three more times in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead and never looked back from there.

In the second inning Dennis started the scoring with an RBI double and freshman Tommy DePaul was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded three batters later to plate the second run.  Dennis added a sacrifice fly in the third to knock in Westdyk and DePaul scored in the fourth during a rundown between first and second.

In the sixth, DePaul plated Dennis, who had doubled, senior Brian Mauro tripled to knock in DePaul and scored on an RBI single from Fischer to give DSU a 7-0 lead.  EU scored three times in the bottom of the sixth before DeSales got two back in the seventh on an RBI single from freshman Tyler Sweeney and an RBI ground out from Dennis.

Junior Eric Dillard earned the win pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing just four hits and striking out four.  Sophomore Chris Zampini earned his second save of the year, recording the final out of the sixth and pitching a scoreless seventh in the win.

DePaul went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Dennis had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs, and Santana finished with two hits and two runs scored.  Sweeney and Fischer also had two hits in the game two win.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow when they host Arcadia University in a non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
