DeSales Uses 14-Hit Attack to Win 10th Straight, 9-5 at Muhlenberg

Allentown, PA (April 28, 2014) – Seven different players recorded hits and the Bulldogs scored runs in six of nine innings en route to their 10th straight win, 9-5, at Muhlenberg College in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.
 
DSU (25-13) took a 1-0 lead in the on RBI single from junior Drew Borger and added three more tallies in the third inning on an RBI groundout from sophomore Carrington Santana and an RBI single from senior Mark Fuse.
 
The Mules (16-18-1) tied the game at four with one run in the fourth and three more in the fifth inning.
 
DeSales wasted no time reclaiming the lead with a solo run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to lead 7-5 before scoring two insurance runs in the ninth to earn the 9-5 win.
 
In the sixth, senior Charles Dennis tripled home freshman Mike Kacergis, senior Mark Westdyk drove in freshman Tommy DePaul with a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and freshman Tyler Sweeney drove in sophomore Alec Hardy in the eighth.  In the ninth DSU scored two unearned runs to take the four-run lead.
 
Junior Trevor Connors earned the win pitching two innings in relief of sophomore Steven Wallace who pitched three solid innings allowing just one hit and striking out two.  Freshman Tyler Cooperman, junior Eric Elmer, and freshman Cameron Hoos combined to pitch four innings of solid relief allowing just one run and striking out four.
 
Dennis finished with three hits to lead the 14-hit attack.  Sweeney, senior Brian Mauro, Kacergis, and Fuse each had two hits in the win and DePaul continued his hot hitting going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
The Bulldogs are scheduled to return to action tomorrow when they travel to PSU-Berks for another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
