Center Valley, PA (April 5, 2014) – Senior Charles Dennis knocked in three runs in game one and three pitchers combined to allow just five hits in game two leading the DeSales University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep at Manhattanville College, 5-2 and 4-2, on Saturday afternoon.

The wins move DeSales to 9-9 overall for the season and 8-1 in the Freedom Conference.  Freshman Andrew Schuler earned the win in game one lasting four innings, scattering six hits and surrendering just two runs.  Freshman Cameron Hoos recorded the final out of the game to record his third save of the year.

DSU broke open a scoreless game entering the fourth inning with four runs including an RBI single from senior Mark Westdyk and a bases clearing double from senior Charles Dennis.

MVC answered with two runs in its half of the fourth but that was it as the Bulldog bullpen tossed three scoreless innings to preserve the win.  DSU added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Dennis doubled and scored on a throwing error by the Valiant third baseman and with runners on first and third and two outs in the bottom of the inning, Hoos got the Valiant clean-up hitter to fly out to end the game.

Senior Brian Mauro had two more hits and was on-base four times in the game one win.  Dennis also had two hits and knocked in three runs.

In the second game, DSU scored once in the first on an RBI single from Mauro and twice in the second on an RBI single from sophomore Carrington Santana and an RBI double from freshman Tommy DePaul to lead 3-0.  In the fifth the Bulldogs added a run when Westdyk scored during a rundown between first and second.

MVC got two runs in the sixth inning before sophomore Evan Fraser entered the game to strike out the final two batters of the inning ending the threat with runners on first and second and Hoos stranded a one-out single in the seventh to earn his fourth save of the year.

Sophomore Steven Wallace earned the win allowing just four hits and two runs over 5.1 innings, striking out three.  Santana had two hits and scored twice and Westdyk also had two hits in the win.

The Bulldogs host Manhattanville in the third game of the weekend series tomorrow at Butz Field beginning at 1:00 pm.
