Early Deficit Too Much for Bulldogs in 8-1 Loss to Misericordia

West Lawn, PA (May 3, 2014) – Misericordia scored once in the first inning and added four more in the second after a 30+ minute rain delay to take a 5-0 lead and the DeSales University baseball team was unable to get anything going at the plate falling 8-1 to the Cougars in game five of the Freedom Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday evening.
 
MU (27-13-1) extended its lead to 6-0 in the sixth inning before the Bulldogs scored once in the seventh on an RBI double from senior Brian Mauro scored freshman Tommy DePaul.  DSU left runners at the corners in the first inning, at the corners in the fourth inning, and the bases loaded in the fifth.
 
Junior Eric Dillard took the loss allowing five runs over two innings pitched, while Corey Lee earned the win for Misericordia lasting seven innings allowing one run on six hits, striking out six.
 
DePaul led DeSales with three hits and junior Nick Fischer had two base knocks in the loss.
 
Misericordia advances to the championship game on Sunday where they will need to beat Manhattanville College twice to take home the title.
