Win Streak Snapped at Three with 4-3 Loss in OT at Marywood

Scranton, PA (September 13, 2014) – The DeSales University field hockey team fought back twice erasing a 2-0 and 3-2 deficit only to come up just short in overtime, falling 4-3 at Marywood University on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

After the Pacers scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the game the Bulldogs started their first comeback as sophomore Alexa Beaumont scored off a rebound and sophomore Nicola McDermott tied the game at two just 4:44 before the half taking control of a loose ball in the box after the goalie had tipped a crossing pass for her third goal of the season.

Marywood re-took the lead 5:51 into the second-half on a goal from Gabriella Bower but once again DeSales had the answer as McDermott scored her second of the game off an assist from senior Alison Malatesta with just 6:04 left to play in regulation tying the game and eventually sending it into overtime.

Both teams had chances in the OT period and with just 2:04 remaining in the first extra period MU's Tori Jo Kakusian, scored her third goal of the game to give the Pacers the win.

DSU out-shot Marywood, 15-14, while the Pacers had an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners.  Junior Becky Rasmuson made three saves in the cage.

DeSales will look to start a new winning streak on Thursday, September 18th when they travel to Ramapo College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
