Mahwah, NJ (September 18, 2014) – Freshman
Tess Luzi scored her second career goal breaking a scoreless tie early in the second-half and lifting the DeSales University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Ramapo College in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon.
DSU (4-2) dominated the first-half out-shooting Ramapo (1-7), 13-4, but was unable to find the back of the cage. Early in the second-half, junior
Meryah Harding took control of a rebound and pushed a pass to the post where Luzi was to score her second goal of the season and give DSU the only goal it needed.
The Bulldogs finished the game out-shooting the Roadrunners, 22-7, for the game and junior
Becky Rasmuson made six saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. The shutout ties Rasmuson with
Molly Pope for the most in a season after Pope also tallied four shutouts in 2007. Rasmuson had already broken the consecutive shutout minutes earlier in the season.
The fourth shutout also ties the mark for most team shutouts in a season previously set three other times in 2005, 2007, and 2008. The Bulldogs also continue its streak of scoring at least one goal in a game and have now scored at least one goal in a game for 22 straight games, also a team record.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy University for another non-conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
