Gwynedd Valley, PA (September 20, 2014) – Gwynedd-Mercy College scored twice over the final 20 minutes erasing a 2-1 deficit to defeat the DeSales University field hockey team, 3-2, in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.
The first-half was a scoreless affair for both teams after a penalty stroke from senior
Rachel Wysocky with less than a minute to play in the half.
In the second half it took the Griffins just 52 seconds to get on the board first in the second-half as
Melissa Russo gave GMC a 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs countered as senior
Alyssa Malatesta scored off an assist from senior
Alison Malatesta at the 42:47 mark to tie the score and
Alison Malatesta gave DSU a 2-1 lead just 6:15 later scoring unassisted on a breakaway.
Gwynedd re-tied the game at two just 1:18 later when Russo scored her second of the game and took a 3-2 lead with 8:58 left to play when
Katie O'Neill scored the eventual game-winner.
GMC had a 27-11 edge in shots and a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners for the game. Junior
Becky Rasmuson made 10 saves in goal and junior
Alessandra Farnesi had a defensive save for the Bulldogs.
DSU returns to action on Wednesday, September 24
th when they travel to Juniata College for a non-conference game starting at 7:00 pm.
