Center Valley, PA (September 23, 2014) – It wasn't easy but the DeSales University volleyball team battled to a three-set win over Manhattanville College, 27-25, 25-21, 25-18 to stay undefeated in the Freedom Conference on Tuesday evening in Billera Hall.
After taking a 4-0 lead in the first set, MVC (7-8, 1-1 Freedom) stormed back to take control of the set and a 14-9 lead. DSU pulled to within one, 17-16, before the Valiants scored three straight points to take a commanding 20-16 lead late in the first set.
The Bulldogs again scored three straight to pull within one as the game went back-and-forth over the next few points. Tied at 23, MVC's
Allison Regan earned a kill but freshman
Timera Kemp re-tied the game on set point for the Valiants. A kill from
Alissa Primavera gave MVille its second set point but a kill from senior
Julie Blessing, then a mental mistake on the next serve as the Valiants were out of rotation gave DSU its first set point and freshman
Logan Wieziolowski clinched it with a kill and a 27-25 win.
MVC was out of the gates quickly in set two, taking a 3-0 lead, before DeSales rallied to take a 10-6 advantage and never trailed the rest of the set, pulling away with the game score, 20-19, to take the second set, 25-21. In the third set Manhattanville again took a 3-0 lead before the Bulldogs scored five straight points to lead 5-3. It was tied at 12 when DeSales scored six of the next seven points to lead 18-13 and never looked back from there.
Wieziolowski and fellow freshman
Sienna Heist again led DeSales with 11 kills each, while Blessing added 10 kills. Freshman
Timera Kemp had five blocks and Wieziolowski added three.
Sophomore
Lisa Wallitsch finished with 36 assists and added 12 digs, while senior
Amanda Wallitsch had a strong defensive match with 16 digs, a match-high.
The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when they take on Gallaudet University and Allegheny College on the first day of the Gallaudet University tournament on Friday and Saturday.
