Washington, DC (September 26, 2014) – The DeSales University volleyball grinded though two long matches on Friday at the Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University recording one win over host Gallaudet and one tough five-set loss to Allegheny College.
The Bulldogs opened by defeating Gallaudet, 3-1 (27-25, 31-29, 19-25, 27-25), before opening up a 2-1 lead in sets vs. Allegheny College only to fall, 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 19-25, 11-15). DSU returns to action tomorrow morning when they take on Olivet College and one other opponent to be named after its result vs. Olivet.
In the win over Galludet three players reached double digits in kills including freshman
Logan Wieziolowski with 14 kills and seven blocks, senior
Julie Blessing with 13 kills and two blocks, and freshman
Sienna Heist with 10 kills and two blocks. Senior
Chrissy Banos added nine kills and two blocks.
Sophomore
Lisa Wallitsch had 45 assists and 18 digs, while senior
Amanda Wallitsch contributed a match-high 19 digs. Junior
Lizzi Levis also played well with 13 digs.
In the Allegheny match, four players had double digit kills including Blessing with a match-high 18, Wieziolowski with 13, and Banos and Heist each with 10 kills. L. Wallitsch finished with 52 assists and 24 digs, while A. Wallitsch had a match-high tying 28 digs.
Freshman
Bernadette Wood also played very well with 19 digs and sophomore
Laura Greenberg had 11 digs. Senior
Brooke Horrigan finished with nine kills, a .320 hitting percentage, seven assists, and five digs in the loss.
