Tough Shooting Night Dooms DSU in 76-55 Loss at Eastern

St. David's, PA (January 28, 2015) – The DeSales University women's basketball team shot just 29.0 percent for the game 22.2 percent in the opening half as Eastern University hit 53.3 percent in the first-half opening up a 31-point halftime lead in a 76-55 win over the Bulldogs in Freedom Conference action on Wednesday evening.
 
No one was in double digits for the Bulldogs (10-8, 4-3 Freedom) as sophomore Morgan McCollian led the way with eight points.  Sophomore Nikki Callahan and freshman Angelica Bertola each had seven points.
 
EU (14-4, 6-1 Freedom) was led by senior Meghan Nowak with a game-high 20 points and fellow senior Gina DiDomenico added 19 points, including five three's.  Sophomore Emily Lavin recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and added eight blocks in the win.
 
Eastern opened the game hot hitting its first three 3's to take a 9-4 lead and continued to stay hot over the first 13 minutes of the half opening up a 31-8 lead.
 
Five quick points cut the margin down to 18 points but the Eagles kept the pressure on increasing their lead to as many as 31 points at the half (48-17).
 
EU hit on 53.3 percent in the opening half and took advantage of 13 first-half Bulldog turnovers, scoring 22 points off those turnovers.  DSU hit on just 22.2 percent of its first-half attempts.
 
The Bulldogs did a better job in the second-half hitting 36.8 percent and finished the game forcing 27 Eagle turnovers that led to 28 points for DeSales.
 
DeSales returns to action on Saturday, January 31st when they host King's College in Freedom Conference action beginning at 1:00 pm.
