Washington, DC (October 10, 2015) – The DeSales University volleyball team had a terrific weekend placing second at the eight-team Worthington Classic hosted by Gallaudet University, splitting two matches on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (15-9) opened the day moving into the championship match with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-19) win over Catholic University. In that win freshman
Gabby Savite` was terrific posting 21 kills and hitting .395 for the match to go along with 16 digs.
Sophomore
Logan Wieziolowski added nine kills and freshman
Taylor Antoniewicz finished with eight kills and hit .467 in the win. Junior
Lisa Wallitsch continued her terrific performance running the offense with 40 assists and added 11 digs, while freshman
Natalie Gray and sophomore
Bernadette Wood each had 16 digs in the win.
DSU moved onto to play Virginia Wesleyan College in the championship match. DSU took a 2-1 lead with a 25-12 and 25-22 win in sets one and three. VWC battled to a 27-25 win to force a decisive fifth set. In the fifth set the Bulldogs led 13-11 but Virginia Wesleyan was able to scratch out the final four points to win 15-13.
Savite` was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Bulldogs was once again sensational in the loss to VWC with 26 kills, 14 digs, three blocks, and a .297 hitting percentage. Wieziolowski was also outstanding with 15 kills and six blocks in the loss.
Junior
Jess Swanson finished with 10 kills, Wallitsch finished with 58 assists and 10 digs, and Gray had 28 digs. Senior
Laura Greenberg added 17 digs and Wood had 16 for DeSales.
The Bulldogs are right back to action on Wednesday, October 14
th as they travel to Wilkes University for an important MAC Freedom match beginning at 7:00 pm.
