Center Valley, PA (October 10, 2015) – The DeSales University women's soccer team recorded its three straight win, all via shutout, blanking MAC Freedom foe FDU-Florham, 2-0, on a beautiful fall Saturday afternoon.
DSU (8-4, 2-0 MAC Freedom) out-shot FDU (7-6, 1-1 MAC Freedom), 12-2, and had a 3-0 edge in corner kicks for the game. Junior
Emily Hoats needed to make just one save to record her third shutout individually on the year.
Sophomore
Marissa Raia got DSU on the board, scoring the eventual game-winner at 35:36 alertly playing a free kick quickly and catching the Devil defense off guard as her shot from about 20 yards out just above the box found the corner of the net. It was Raia's first tally of the season and gave DSU a 1-0 halftime lead.
DeSales needed just 1:03 into the second-half to get its insurance goal as sophomore
Angelica Bertola played a centering pass into the box where senior
Jamie Barna leaped over a defender and headed the ball to a charging junior
Rachel Shive who scored inside the far post for her ninth goal of the season.
The win is DSU's eighth of the year, seven of which have come via shutout.
DeSales returns to action on Tuesday, October 13
th when they travel to Manhattanville College for a MAC Freedom game beginning at 4:00 pm.
