Sulpizio Save Late Preserves Scoreless Tie at Manhattanville

Purchase, NY (October 14, 2015) – Sophomore Dan Sulpizio made a terrific diving stop in the 109th minute leading the DeSales University men's soccer team to a scoreless tie on the road at Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon in MAC Freedom action.

The two teams combined for just nine total shots on goal as defense was at a premium for both teams.  DSU (5-8-1, 0-2-1 MAC Freedom) had perhaps their best scoring chance early in the first overtime when junior Alex Peek had a header just in front of the goal saved by the Valiant keeper (6-5-3, 0-1-2 MAC Freedom).

MVille had two good chances in the second overtime with the first coming midway thru when a ball over the top saw a Valiant keeper racing Sulpizio to the ball but his shot was wide as Sulpizio dove in front of the attempt forcing the shot wide.

With just over a minute left to play a Valiant midfielder unleashed a rocket from about 25 yards into the left corner of the goal but Sulpizio made a miraculous diving save snatching the ball out of the air to preserve the scoreless tie as time expired on the second overtime.

Both teams attempted 15 shots with DSU totaling five on goal and Manhattanville four.  Sulpizio finished with five saves for his second shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Eastern University for an important MAC Freedom contest beginning at 2:00 pm.
