Shive Ties Record with Four Goals in 4-1 Win over Wilkes

Center Valley, PA (October 24, 2015) – Junior Rachel Shive recorded her fourth hat trick of the season, this time scoring a single-game record tying four goals, leading the DeSales University women's soccer team to a program best seventh straight win, 4-1, over Wilkes University in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.

A host of records were either tied or broken in the win.  The win is the seventh straight for DeSales (12-4, 6-0 MAC Freedom) breaking the previous record of six straight set twice during the 2006 and 2014 season.  The 12 wins also tie the record for most wins in a season accomplished in 2001.  DSU has now scored 49 goals, breaking the previous record of 48 goals scored in both 2001 and 2008.

Individually Shive ties Brady Walsh for most goals scored in a game (4) accomplished once each and Shive is just two goals shy of tying the single-season record of 18 goals scored by DeSales' Hall of Famer Jeneen Covely in 1999.

Shive gave DSU a 1-0 lead just 5:01 into the game taking a pass from sophomore Angelica Bertola, turning around a defender and firing a shot into the net for her 13th tally of the year.

Wilkes (5-9-2, 2-3-1 MAC Freedom) got the goal back in the 22nd minute to tie the score at one when Micaela Oliverio scored from about 25 yards out off an assist from Brittany Gurreri as that scored stood into the half.

Shive scored the eventual game-winner at 57:42 hitting the rebound off a shot from sophomore Danni Engwall into the back of the net and added two more goals at 69:37 off a gorgeous feed from junior Jess Wetherhold and unassisted at 73:48.

Junior Emily Hoats made three saves in goal as DSU out-shot Wilkes, 18-11, and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bulldogs are back in action one week from today when they travel to Misericordia University for a showdown with the also unbeaten Cougars in MAC Freedom play with the top seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament on the line.  Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
