Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 3, 2015) – Junior
Rachel Shive scored three goals leading the DeSales University women's soccer team past King's College, 4-0, in the MAC Freedom season opener for both teams on a soggy Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Jess Wetherhold got the scoring started, tallying her fifth marker of the season off an assist from sophomore
Danni Engwall with a shot from about 25 yards out into the upper left corner of the net in the 20
th minute.
Shive scored her first of three in the 33
rd minute giving the Bulldogs (6-4, 1-0 MAC Freedom) a 2-0 halftime lead on a gorgeous feed from sophomore
Marissa Raia.
Shive then added two more goals in a span of 54 seconds at 68:27 and 69:21 to provide the final tally. Her third came on an assist from sophomore
Rachel Logue and the hat trick was again from Raia.
Junior
Emily Hoats did not need to make a save in recording her first shutout of the season in the win. DSU had an 11-3 advantage in shots over King's (3-5, 0-1 MAC Freedom) and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Moravian College for a non-conference game beginning at 3:45 pm.
