Center Valley, PA (October 6, 2015) – Junior
Nicola McDermott scored twice and the DeSales University field hockey team recorded its first shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Arcadia University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
A scoreless game at the half, McDermott put DeSales (3-9) on the board in the 45
th minute, just 9:28 into the second-half when she banged home a pass from freshman
Chelsea DeFrancisco off a corner.
It remained a one-goal game into the 62
nd minute when the duo hooked up again on nearly the exact same play as DeFrancisco fed the front of the cage and McDermott was unmarked once again pushing home the pass for the combo's second connection of the game.
The defense did the rest as senior
Julia Martinez had a defensive save in the second-half and freshman
Savanna Lacek made four saves including one gorgeous one after a long pass outside the circle surprisingly bounced off the post to a waiting Arcadia (4-8) but her shot was turned aside by an alert Lacek to preserve the win and the shutout.
AU had a 13-4 edge in shots and a 15-5 advantage in penalty corners for the game.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Friday when they travel to Delaware Valley University for a MAC Freedom game beginning at 7:00 pm.
